5G

Services

The development of 5G technologies will be a key enabler in realizing breakthroughs in the mobile communications infrastructure that is capable of offering high-speed broadband and intelligent- features to achieve near-instantaneous connectivity between people and connected devices anywhere and at any time. 5G is therefore envisaged to be a comprehensive and integrated network of verticals capable of delivering a fully mobile and connected society.

IoT

One of the major ways to actualise 5G may be through the use of small cells densification (a dense layer of small cells) located 50-200m apart and 2-6 metres above street level, mounted on lamp columns, building walls or bus shelters. Utility poles are ideal as they provide access to power and in some cases leased fibre.

Reduction of latency to the level set-out for 5G will require the speed of signal processing to increase. This means that both the radio frequency processing and the location of content to be served to the user's device need to be brought closer to the end user in order to guarantee the stringent end to end delay requirements.

High capacity backhaul is another major requirement for 5G. 5G envisages using multiple backhaul technologies ranging from optical, microwave, and millimetre wave and satellite technologies.

AWTG offers a full range of 5G, IoT and M2M solutions and we are capable of working with you on a flexible and adaptable basis to ensure that you maximise the benefits of 5G, M2M and IoT deployment according to your specific requirements and strategic goals.

AWTG is proud to have built and delivered Europe’s first dedicated 5G innovation facility at the University of Surrey (UoS) of which we are also an active associate member. AWTG designed and deployed a 44 site complete end to end self-contained network with all the elements and functionality of a commercial network. The facility is dedicated to defining and implementing innovative 5G technologies as well as the development of 5G use cases in areas such as telehealth, location-based services, IoT (Internet of Things) and M2M (Machine to Machine) communications. The 5G test bed is designed to help develop and define the new 5G standards that will be required for the provision of future innovative services as well as how next generation networks will operate in an urban environment.

In addition to the full deployment of the 5G infrastructure, AWTG is also a key partner in the establishment, maintenance and ongoing operation of the test lab covering fix-break, monitoring and resolution as well as configuration for multiple test scenarios.

Through our research partnerships, AWTG is actively working on 5G use cases and infrastructure requirements in collaboration with the 5G Research Team at the Centre for Telecommunications Research, King’s College, London.
